Where friends and tiles come together

Sisters House of Mahj is a community built around American mahjong — the shuffle, the Charleston, the friendly rivalry, and the snacks in between.

We host relaxed Open Play nights in each other’s homes, run short seasonal leagues for players who want a little friendly competition, and keep the door open for anyone curious to learn. Whether you’ve played for years or have never touched a bam, there’s a seat for you.

Open Play

Every Monday, 6:00–8:30 PM. Drop in for an evening of mahjong — we bring the tables, the tiles, and the snacks.

January Mini Mahjong League

A short, friendly four-week league for players who want to keep score and chase a little glory.

When: Every Wednesday, starting January 13, 2027 · 6:30–8:30 PM
Format: 8 games per night, all 8 games scored
Cost: $125 per player
Prizes: 1st, 2nd & 3rd place

Terms & Tiles

Pair — 2 like tiles
Pung — 3 like tiles
Chow — a run
Kong — 4 like tiles
Quint / Sextet — 5 / 6 like tiles
Suits: Dots, Bams & Craks
Honor tiles: Winds & Flowers

The Charleston

1st: Right, Over, Left (option to stop)
2nd: Left, Over, Right
Optional 0–3 tiles with the person across from you

Rule of thumb: if someone stops the Charleston early, don’t do an optional pass.

Joker Rules

May be used in a pung, kong, quint, or sextet.
May not be used in a pair (FF), a run (1234), or singles (NEWS or 2026).
